EL DESARROLLO INDUSTRIAL DE LA PESCA

El desarrollo industrial de la pesca en Punta Umbría se produce a lo largo de la primera mitad del siglo XX. Grandes empresas pesqueras descubren la riqueza marina de estas costas y atraen a muchos nuevos pobladores para trabajar en sus embarcaciones. Aparecen los primeros barcos de vapor, para los que eran necesarias decenas de personas que elevaban las pesadas redes. Se dedicaban principalmente a la pesca de la sardina.

En la actualidad, el puerto de Punta Umbría cuenta con una flota de 150 barcos que utilizan diferentes técnicas de pesca. Estas embarcaciones pueden verse en el río y se pueden identificar cada una de sus técnicas de pesca según la morfología y las dimensiones del barco. Más de 600 familias dependen en Punta Umbría de la pesca y es uno de los motores económicos de la localidad. Los recursos pesqueros que la flota trae a diario hasta el puerto, son un reclamo para decenas de miles de turistas que visitan Punta Umbría durante todo el año. Los pescados y mariscos de Punta Umbría son conocidos en todo el territorio español desde la primera mitad del siglo XX.

By this time, large fishing companies discovered the marine wealth of these coasts and attracted many new settlers to work on their boats. Therefore, the first steamships appeared requiring dozens of people to lift the heavy nets. They were mainly dedicated to sardine fishing.

Nowadays, the port of Punta Umbría has a 150 boats fleet which uses different fishing techniques. These boats can be seen in the river and each of their fishing techniques can be identified according to the morphology and dimensions of the boat. More than 600 families in Punta Umbria depend on fishing and it is one of the economic engines of this town.

The fishing resources that the fleet brings daily to the port are an attraction for tens of thousands of tourists who visit Punta Umbria throughout the year. The fish and seafood of Punta Umbria have been known all over Spain since the first half of the 20th century.
